About

I write blog posts, features, reviews and essays. I particularly enjoy making specialist or technical information more accessible via briefing papers, explainers and interpretation materials of all kinds. You can find out more about my work in the freelance writing section of this site.

I also write poetry and short stories and my work has featured in a number of anthologies.

I am currently writing A brief history of Bedfordshire in plants and animals, where I tell the tangled story of people, the land, plants and animals in one ordinary English county.

I support small charities and not-for-profits, community groups running small scale projects (for example local history, environmental or education projects) and churches with their communications. You can read more about the services I offer in the comms consultant section of this site. I’m based in Bedford if working with someone local is important for your project.

If you’re interested in commissioning something from me please get in touch via the contact form.

You can also find me on BlueSky, LinkedIn and Instagram.

My background

Following a degree in history and then a PGCE specialising in primary education and history, I have worked in outreach and communications for twenty years. Across this time I have worked with small charities, museums and galleries, community groups and churches on a diverse range of projects. Particular areas of expertise include environmental projects and campaigns, history and heritage, and informal learning.
