I provide copywriting and editorial support to help make your short and long form writing as effective as possible.
Copywriting
Copywriting is all about creating content that is designed to inspire action. For example, you might want people to click on a link, read a feature, volunteer, donate or sign a petition. Good copywriting means understanding your audiences and being able to develop messages that they will find compelling and motivating. It often requires explaining complex ideas in ways that are concise, clear and relatable. Places where you might need strong copywriting include captions for social media posts, your website, leaflets, and supporter communications. Whether it’s strengthening your existing copywriting or guiding your first steps in persuasive writing, I can help you understand what makes an effective call to action for your project.
Editing
Editing is about helping you to find the best shape for longer pieces of work such as website features. It makes sure that the writing flows well, is easy to follow, and that the ideas are developed in a logical way. In other words, it’s looking at the big picture, making sure the piece makes sense as a whole. It also checks that the piece follows the brief or answers the question that it set out to tackle. Editing might involve restructuring a piece to give it a stronger central narrative, suggesting cuts to help keep it focused, or explaining where more information might be helpful. In some cases it might be about making dry or technical information more engaging to give the piece a stronger voice. Where possible I always try and explain why I’m suggesting changes so that clients can develop their understanding of the process.
