What to post when you don’t know what to post

Four quick content tips

If you don’t have any news to share it can sometimes be difficult to work out what to post to keep your supporters interested. These four ideas can help you fill the gaps in your schedule. They’re also good places to start if you’re just getting going with comms as a small not-for-profit.

You can use these ideas as part of your regular posting mix throughout the year. You’ll be reminding existing supporters of your great work and helping new supporters understand more about you.

Share your story not your mission statement

Tell people a bit about what you do, why you do it, or who you help. Be specific and use real examples to bring your story to life. Help people understand what your strapline means in practice.

Say thank you

Celebrate your volunteers, supporters or the communities you work with.

Show your impact

Tell people what changes as a result of what you do. You could use quotes, photos or stats to help.

Call to action

Have you got a fundraising campaign on the go or would you like more people to sign up to receive your newsletter? Choose one clear action you’d like supporters to take this week.
