All change!

I’m making a few changes to where I publish different kinds of post to make it easier for readers to choose what they want to see.

Tea and tips

Tea and tips is a new calm and supportive space for anyone working with words in the small charity, community, not-for-profit, or creative world.

I’ll be sharing short posts with practical tips and ideas, the kind of length you can read over a cup of tea and hopefully leave feeling inspired. It’ll be a cosier version of the charity comms blog posts I shared on this site which I’ll be retiring, so if you’re currently following the blog for that content now’s the time to shift across.

It’s run from Substack and you can either subscribe to receive it straight to your inbox or visit the Tea and tips home page to read any of the posts in the archive without signing up. I’d love to see you there.

The blog

I’ll still be posting here but concentrating on sharing new pieces of writing, including the Brief history of Bedfordshire in plants and animals series, and updates when my work is published elsewhere.

Shelly’s Scribblings

Shelly’s Scribblings is my newsletter. Subscribers usually receive three posts a month.

Tea, cake, and a nice day out is focused on somewhere I’ve visited over the month. That might be a historic site, garden, nature reserve, town, museum or exhibition. I include my cake of the day, any books I picked up in the second hand bookshop, and some highlights from the trip.

My writer’s diary includes links to pieces that have been published on my website or elsewhere. There will also be a behind the scenes peek at the projects I’m working on, plus any writing related news and updates.

The reading journal is a round up of some of the books I’ve enjoyed reading over the month. There will also be an occasional in depth look at a particular book or series.

Like Tea and tips, it’s run from Substack and all my posts are free to read.
